Flatbed Towing in Peoria, IL
Peoria Premier Towing & Recovery runs four flatbeds out of a six-truck yard, so for flatbed towing in Peoria the closest truck is usually a deck. A local flatbed tow typically costs $95-$175 in 2026 with the first 5-7 miles in. You hear that number on the phone before we roll. No surprises.

Flatbed Towing Services in Peoria
Picture a truck whose whole bed tips back and slides down to the pavement. That's a flatbed (old-timers still say rollback). We drive or winch your car up the deck, strap it by the tires and carry it, so nothing on it turns the whole trip. AWD cars, EVs, lowered cars and wrecks that won't roll all ride this way. Peoria Premier Towing provides flatbed car transport to Peoria and surrounding Illinois cities, including East Peoria, Pekin, Washington, Morton and Bartonville.
For flatbed towing, Peoria calls mostly start one of two ways: the car quit, or the car got hit. A car that slid off the road may need a winch-out service before it ever sees the deck, and a crash brings storage and insurance into it (our accident towing page walks through that). We ran about 3,900 calls in 2025, and a big share were flatbed runs from East Peoria and up the bluff in Peoria Heights.
When You Need Flatbed Towing
Some cars ride fine on a wheel-lift. Others really don't. Ask for the deck if your car matches any line here:
- All-wheel drive: AWD towing with two wheels on the road can strain the transfer case. The deck keeps every wheel still.
- Electric or hybrid: Tesla says to transport a Model 3 with all four tires off the ground.
- Low clearance: lowered cars, sports cars and long front bumpers that would scrape at a wheel-lift angle.
- Damage: a bent wheel, a locked brake or a crash that left the car unable to roll straight.
- Value: classic, luxury or brand-new cars where you want no tire wear and nothing touching the frame.
Typical 2026 prices: $95-$150 for a local wheel-lift tow and $95-$175 for a local flatbed tow, both with the first 5-7 miles included, then $4-$6 per mile. HomeGuide's 2023 survey put the flatbed rate near $95 plus $3.50 a mile. The quote we give you on the phone is the real number.

Can You Tow an AWD Car With a Regular Tow Truck?
Not safely with two wheels on the road. An all-wheel drive car ties its front and rear axles together through the transfer case, so turning one end while the other sits still builds heat and strain. Put it on a flatbed. The other safe way is to lift one end and set dollies under the other axle.
How Do You Tow a Tesla?
On a flatbed, facing either direction, with all four tires off the ground. Tesla's owner's manual warns that spinning wheels make the motor generate power, which can cause damage or overheating. The car goes into Transport Mode so it can roll onto the deck under 3 mph, for less than 30 feet.
How Much Does a Flatbed Tow Cost in Peoria?
Most local flatbed tows in Peoria run $95 to $175 in 2026, with the first 5 to 7 miles included. Past that, plan on $4 to $6 a mile. Late-night, holiday and storm calls can cost a bit more. We tell you the full price on the phone before we send a truck.
Is Flatbed Better Than Wheel Lift Towing?
For AWD, electric, lowered and damaged cars, yes. A wheel-lift raises only the drive wheels and lets the other two roll, which works for most front-wheel drive sedans going a short way. It's also quicker in a tight lot. The price difference between the two is usually $25 or less.
Can You Get a Car Out of a Low Parking Garage?
Usually, yes. A flatbed won't fit under most garage ceilings, so we use wheel skates, small wheeled pads under each tire, to roll the car out to the street and load it there. Tesla's manual names these dollies as the backup plan when Transport Mode won't turn on.
Types of Flatbed Towing We Handle
Most flatbed calls land in one of five groups. The dispatcher asks your make, model and where the car sits, and that tells us how it gets loaded.
AWD Towing
Subarus, AWD crossovers and pickups left in 4WD all go up on the deck. Lift one end of an all-wheel drive car and roll the other, and you get a tandem bike when the back rider grabs the brakes: the front keeps pulling and the middle takes the beating. In a car, the middle is the transfer case, the gearbox that splits power front to back. That's the part that pays for it. We think AWD towing on two wheels isn't worth it at any distance, so we'd rather send the bigger truck.
Electric Vehicle and Tesla Towing
Tesla's owner's manual is blunt: always move a Model 3 with all four tires off the ground. Spinning wheels turn the motor into a generator, and that can mean heat, damage and, rarely, fire. So EVs ride the flatbed, facing either way. We switch on Transport Mode, which keeps the parking brake off while we winch. Last winter plenty of our EV calls weren't breakdowns at all. According to AAA, a 20 F day with the heater on cuts average range 41 percent.
Low-Clearance and Sports Car Transport
Lowered cars, sports cars and anything with a long front lip need a gentle angle. We lay the deck as flat as it'll go, set wood planks under the ramp if the lip still hangs low, and winch an inch at a time. Wes, our owner, spent 11 years wrenching on diesels before he bought a rollback in 2009, and he's said it plenty: "If it were my car, I'd want the driver who checks twice." Slow loads. Clean bumpers.
Damaged and Non-Rolling Car Towing
A bent wheel, a seized brake or a hard hit can leave a car that won't roll straight. Every flatbed we run carries wheel skates (little wheeled pads that slide under each tire), plus a floor jack, soft straps, a jump box and a lockout kit. With skates on, we roll a locked-up car out of a garage and winch it aboard. Wheel chocks sit behind the tires the whole time it's loading.
Wheel Lift Towing vs Flatbed
Our single wheel-lift wrecker does a drive-wheel pickup: a metal yoke cradles the tires that get the engine's power (the front pair on a front-drive car) and the back two roll. It's quick and it fits tight lots. For a front-drive sedan going a few miles, it's fine, and nothing touches the frame. The old hook and chain method could scuff bumpers, so we don't use it. For AWD, it's a wheel-lift plus dollies, or the deck.
Flatbed Towing Cost in Peoria
These are typical 2026 ranges for Peoria. Your phone quote is the number that counts, and it includes the miles to where the car is going.
| Tow type | Typical 2026 price | Best for |

| Local wheel-lift tow, first 5-7 miles | $95-$150 | Front-drive sedans on short trips |
| Local flatbed tow, first 5-7 miles | $95-$175 | AWD, EV, lowered or damaged cars |
| Each mile past the first 5-7 | $4-$6 | Longer runs inside the metro |
| Winch onto the deck from a ditch | $120-$250 | Cars off the pavement |
| Long-distance flatbed | $3-$5 per loaded mile | Trips past the Peoria area |
What to Do While You Wait for a Flatbed
A few minutes of prep makes the pickup faster and safer, especially on a bridge or the interstate.
- Stay buckled: the Murray Baker Bridge has no shoulders, and I-74 traffic doesn't slow for you. Hazards on, seat belt on, stay put.
- Find the key: for a Tesla, have the key card or phone ready so the car can go into Transport Mode.
- Send a photo: a car parked in a garage or tucked behind a fence tells us to load skates before we leave.
- Pick a drop-off: your driveway, your shop or a dealer lot. After hours is fine if we have access and the paperwork.
Illinois' Scott's Law says drivers must move over or slow down for a tow truck working with its lights on. Every time we load on I-74, somebody blows past anyway. Give the lane room.
Why Peoria Drivers Call Peoria Premier Towing
We're a small family crew with six trucks, and we'd rather keep a customer for twenty years than make an extra $40 on one tow. Here is what that looks like on a call.
Towing in Peoria Since 2009
Wes bought his first rollback in 2009 after eleven years wrenching on trucks. The crew still works off the same rule: fix it on the spot if we can, tow it right if we can't.
Tow Prices Quoted Before We Roll
Think of the menu taped in a diner window: you know what breakfast costs before you sit down. You hear one number on the phone, and that's the bill.
Flatbed Tow Trucks for AWD and Electric Cars
Four of our six trucks are flatbeds. Your all-wheel drive, electric or lowered car rides on the deck with all four wheels off the road.
We answer every hour of every day. During a storm the wait gets longer for everyone, so we tell you the real number and text if it moves.
Damage-Free Towing With Photos
Soft straps on the wheels, never chains on the frame, and photos of all four sides before we load. You get the pictures if you want them.
About one call in four ends with a jump, a spare or a few gallons of gas. If that's all you need, that's all you pay for.

More Flatbed Towing Questions
Can I Ride in the Flatbed Tow Truck?
Usually one adult can ride up front with the driver, buckled in the passenger seat, which saves you a cab ride to the shop. Mention it when you call, since some runs need that seat for straps, dollies or a second driver. Kids in car seats and pets are a case-by-case call, so ask us first.
Will a Flatbed Scrape My Front Bumper?
It shouldn't, if the driver takes his time. We check how low the lip sits, drop the deck flat and slide planks under the ramp when it's close. Done right.
Can You Tow My Car if I'm Not There?
Yes. Leave us access to the car and the paperwork, and we'll pick it up without you standing there. It gets photographed on all four sides first, same as always.
What Peoria Drivers Say About Our Towing
A few notes customers sent after the truck left.
Tasha W., East Bluff
Battery died in the hospital parking garage after a night shift. They told me the price on the phone, showed up when they said, and had me running in ten minutes. No tow, no upsell.
Mike and Jen D., Washington
Our AWD minivan quit on I-74. The driver explained why it had to go on the flatbed instead of being dragged, took pictures of the whole van and had it at our mechanic before he opened.
Carlos R., Pekin
Slid into the ditch on a snowy back road. They pulled me out with a winch, checked my tires and steering and I drove home. Cost less than I was ready to pay.
Ashley K., Peoria Heights
Locked my keys in the car with the engine running and my dog inside. They got there fast and opened the door without a mark on it. Very kind about the whole thing.
Dan F., Morton
We run four box trucks and they handle every breakdown. One call, one invoice at the end of the month, and the trucks show up at our shop in one piece.
Brenda S., Bartonville
Rear-ended on Adams Street. They cleaned up the road, held my car in storage for two days while insurance sorted it out and helped me get my things out of the trunk.
