Medium Duty Towing Services in Peoria
Think bigger than a pickup and smaller than a semi. The federal weight classes call these Class 3 to Class 6, meaning a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR, the max loaded weight printed on the door sticker) of 10,001 to 26,000 pounds. A car tow truck isn't built for that. A medium-duty wrecker has a stronger boom and wheel-lift. Peoria Premier Towing provides box truck and commercial towing to Peoria and surrounding Illinois cities, including East Peoria, Pekin, Washington, Morton and Bartonville.
Wes spent 11 years as a diesel mechanic in a truck shop before he started this company in 2009, so he still asks what the truck was doing right before it quit. A rig sunk in a soft lot gets a winch-out first, and a run to a dealer two counties over is long-distance towing. Most of our commercial calls come from East Peoria and Pekin, plus breakdowns along I-474.
When You Need Medium Duty Towing
Plenty of trucks are too heavy for a car wrecker. Ask for the medium-duty truck if:
- Door sticker: the GVWR on the driver's door frame is over 10,000 lbs.
- Dual wheels: the truck has two tires on each side of the rear axle.
- Cargo: a van or box truck is loaded with tools, parts or freight.
- Passengers: it's a shuttle, church bus or small school-style bus.
- Equipment: you need a forklift or skid steer moved between sites.
Typical 2026 prices: $250-$450 to hook up a box truck, bus or loaded work truck, then $6-$9 per mile. A heavy pickup or cargo van on a light-duty truck is usually $105-$185 local, since HomeGuide notes bigger vehicles add $10-$35. Your phone quote is the real number.

How Much Does Medium Duty Towing Cost in Peoria?
A medium duty tow in Peoria typically costs $250 to $450 to hook up in 2026, plus $6 to $9 per mile. The price depends on the truck's weight, whether it's loaded and how hard it is to reach. We quote the full price on the phone before we send the wrecker.
What Counts as a Medium-Duty Vehicle?
Anything with a GVWR between 10,001 and 26,000 pounds, which the federal government calls Class 3 to Class 6. That covers heavy-duty pickups, box trucks, delivery trucks, shuttle buses and loaded cargo vans. The number is on the sticker inside the driver's door.
Can You Tow a Box Truck With Cargo Inside?
Usually yes, as long as the total weight stays inside our wrecker's rating. Very heavy loads may need to be moved to another truck first. Tell us what's inside and roughly how much it weighs when you call, so we bring the right setup.
Do You Offer Fleet Towing Accounts?
Yes. Fleet towing accounts let your drivers call us directly, and we keep your vehicles, drop-off spots and billing contact on file. Every call still gets a price on the phone and photos before the hook-up. Ask us about setting one up for your business.
Can You Move a Forklift or Skid Steer?
Yes. Our equipment transport covers forklifts, skid steers and other small machines. They ride on a flatbed, chained down at the tie-down points with the bucket or forks lowered. Larger construction machines that need a lowboy trailer are outside what we haul.
Types of Medium Duty Towing We Handle
Commercial calls cover a lot of ground. Most of them look like one of these five.
Box Truck Towing
Box trucks are Class 4 to 6, and they love to quit at a loading dock or halfway through a delivery route. Last winter we got one in East Peoria with a dead clutch, backed tight into a dock with a trailer on each side. Easing it out was like parallel parking on a steep Bluff street: slow, square, a little at a time. Then the medium-duty wrecker picked it up from the front and we secured the drive axle.
Work Van and Heavy Pickup Towing
A cargo van full of ladders, pipe and tools weighs a lot more than it looks. Empty-ish Class 2 and 3 pickups and vans can ride a flatbed. Loaded ones go to the wrecker. If you're not sure, read us the GVWR off the door sticker and we'll know.
Small Bus and Shuttle Towing
Shuttle buses, church buses and compact buses are long and rear-wheel drive. Here's the deal: an automatic transmission only gets oil when the engine runs, so towing with the drive wheels turning spins dry gears. We pull the driveshaft or lift the drive axle every time. That's the part a lot of people skip.
Fleet Towing for Local Businesses
Plumbing, HVAC, delivery and landscaping crews keep vans and trucks moving all day, and a dead one costs real money. Fleet towing accounts get a direct line, your vehicles and drop spots on file, an honest ETA on the phone, and a text if it changes. We think the best fleet account is one you barely have to think about.
Equipment Transport
Equipment transport means forklifts, skid steers and similar small machines riding a flatbed. Each one gets chained at its own tie-down points with the forks or bucket down and a wheel chock at each tire. Every new driver on our crew rides along for 2 weeks before running calls alone, and equipment loads are part of that.
Commercial Towing on I-74, I-474 and I-155
A lot of commercial calls come off the interstates. I-474 is the 14.88-mile bypass most trucks take around downtown, and I-155 runs 32 miles from Morton down to I-55. On a highway shoulder our driver sets cones and amber lights before anything gets hooked, because Scott's Law only works when people actually see you. A box truck on the I-155 shoulder at night is a big, dark target.
Commercial Towing Cost in Peoria
For medium duty towing, Peoria prices come down to weight, what's in the back and how far it's going. We've had a box truck go 3 miles for the hook-up price alone and a shuttle bus go 60. These are typical 2026 ranges for commercial towing around Peoria. The phone quote is the one that counts.
| Vehicle | Typical 2026 price | Truck we send |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy pickup or cargo van, local | $105-$185 | Flatbed or wheel-lift |
| Box truck or delivery truck | $250-$450 hook-up | Medium-duty wrecker |
| Shuttle or small bus | $250-$450 hook-up | Medium-duty wrecker |
| Miles past the hook-up | $6-$9 per mile | Medium-duty wrecker |
| Forklift or skid steer move | $250-$450 local | Flatbed |
What Size Tow Truck Does Your Vehicle Need?
Read us the GVWR on your door sticker and we'll know which truck to send. Here's how the federal weight classes line up with what we run:
- Class 1 and 2 (up to 10,000 lbs): cars, SUVs, half-ton pickups and most vans. A light-duty tow truck or flatbed.
- Class 3 (10,001 to 14,000 lbs): heavy-duty pickups and small work trucks. Often the medium-duty wrecker.
- Class 4 to 6 (14,001 to 26,000 lbs): box trucks, delivery trucks and small buses. The medium-duty wrecker.
- Class 7 and 8 (over 26,000 lbs): dump trucks, city buses and semis. These need a heavy-duty wrecker, which we don't run.
If the sticker's worn off, text us a photo of the truck and the VIN. We'll look up the class before anything leaves the yard.
Why Peoria Drivers Call Peoria Premier Towing
We're a small family crew with six trucks, and we'd rather keep a customer for twenty years than make an extra $40 on one tow. Here is what that looks like on a call.
Towing in Peoria Since 2009
Wes bought his first rollback in 2009 after eleven years wrenching on trucks. The crew still works off the same rule: fix it on the spot if we can, tow it right if we can't.
Tow Prices Quoted Before We Roll
Think of the menu taped in a diner window: you know what breakfast costs before you sit down. You hear one number on the phone, and that's the bill.
Flatbed Tow Trucks for AWD and Electric Cars
Four of our six trucks are flatbeds. Your all-wheel drive, electric or lowered car rides on the deck with all four wheels off the road.
We answer every hour of every day. During a storm the wait gets longer for everyone, so we tell you the real number and text if it moves.
Damage-Free Towing With Photos
Soft straps on the wheels, never chains on the frame, and photos of all four sides before we load. You get the pictures if you want them.
About one call in four ends with a jump, a spare or a few gallons of gas. If that's all you need, that's all you pay for.

More Commercial Towing Questions
Do You Tow Semis or Dump Trucks?
No. Those are Class 7 and 8 and need a heavy-duty wrecker. We'll tell you that on the phone right away so you don't lose time.
Can You Tow a Box Truck From a Loading Dock?
Yes. We ease it straight off the dock first, then hook it up in the open lot where the wrecker has room to swing. It's slower that way. It's also how nothing gets clipped.
Do You Need the Keys to Tow a Work Van?
Keys help a lot, because we can put the van in neutral and free up the steering before we hook up, which makes the tow quicker and gentler on the transmission. Without keys we can still move it. We set dollies under the locked wheels and take it a little slower on the turns.
What Peoria Drivers Say About Our Towing
A few notes customers sent after the truck left.
Tasha W., East Bluff
Battery died in the hospital parking garage after a night shift. They told me the price on the phone, showed up when they said, and had me running in ten minutes. No tow, no upsell.
Mike and Jen D., Washington
Our AWD minivan quit on I-74. The driver explained why it had to go on the flatbed instead of being dragged, took pictures of the whole van and had it at our mechanic before he opened.
Carlos R., Pekin
Slid into the ditch on a snowy back road. They pulled me out with a winch, checked my tires and steering and I drove home. Cost less than I was ready to pay.
Ashley K., Peoria Heights
Locked my keys in the car with the engine running and my dog inside. They got there fast and opened the door without a mark on it. Very kind about the whole thing.
Dan F., Morton
We run four box trucks and they handle every breakdown. One call, one invoice at the end of the month, and the trucks show up at our shop in one piece.
Brenda S., Bartonville
Rear-ended on Adams Street. They cleaned up the road, held my car in storage for two days while insurance sorted it out and helped me get my things out of the trunk.
